Nomination - Leaders in Literacy Education

Leaders in Literacy Education pays tribute to literacy practitioners, volunteers, instructors, teachers, researchers, projects, and programs that exhibit the highest standard of excellence, dedication, leadership, creativity, and accomplishment in the field of literacy. This award category recognizes exceptional achievement of an individual, group or project that has made a significant contribution to the field of literacy in Manitoba.

To submit a nomination for the Leaders in Literacy Education category:

A. Complete the nomination form. pdf format (26 KB)

B. Respond to each of the following statements as thoroughly and concisely as possible. Submissions are to be typed, and should be limited to a maximum of five typed pages.

  1. Describe how the nominee has made a significant contribution to improving the reading, writing, and/or speaking skills of the learners. Identify the literacy group(s) served by the nominee: adults, youth at risk of dropping out of school, public school students or family literacy participants.
  2. How has the nominee demonstrated a leadership role in their specific area of literacy activities?
  3. Give evidence of the innovative and creative aspects of the nominee's work in literacy activities.
  4. Give evidence that demonstrates the nominee's contribution to ensuring learner input in the educational process and promotion of literacy as a means of self-empowerment.
  5. Give evidence of the nominee's dedication and commitment to promoting literacy above and beyond normal job duties.
  6. Please list the additional documentation submitted in support of the nomination and indicate the criteria that are demonstrated by each piece of addition document.

C. Provide documentation to support your nominee. This may include newspaper articles, magazine or journal articles by, or about, the nominee, letters of support, photographs, examples of materials developed by the nominee (print, video, sound recording etc.) copies of awards received or other concrete examples of the impact of the nominee’s contribution to literacy.

D. Send the completed nomination form and any supporting materials to the following address:
